Snow Bunting
Plectrophenax nivalis
A flock of Snow Buntings swirls past a backdrop of ice-covered trees in winter. Like Redpolls these tiny winter visitors are drawn to open areas like fallow weedy fields, croplands with grain stubble, or along barren roadsides, where they forage on the ground for seeds. Winter flocks of Snow Buntings sometimes number in the thousands, creating a thrilling sight when they take flight en masse.
