Mourning Dove

Zenaida macroura

A pair of Mourning doves in their nest in a tree.

A Mourning Dove pair is settling in to their nest. The male (above) has brought nesting material to the female sitting on the nest. American Robins and other songbirds also nest in these birch trees in spring. In fall and winter, nuthatches and chickadees probe among the scales of bark in search of hidden insects.
